Pankaj Mehta honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award in Dubai

The first Middle East-China Diamond & Jewellery Summit organised by Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has honoured Pankaj Mehta, founder of Dimexon and Eurostar with Lifetime Achievement award for his outstanding contributions to the growth of the global diamond and jewellery trade.

 

The award was conferred by Varda Shine, MD, Diamond Trading Company (DTC) at a gala event held at the Atlantis Hotel, Palm Jumeirah, on the sidelines of the two-day summit. Guests at the evening consisted of an array of public and private-sector leaders, including high-profile members of the global diamond trade. Said Ian White, Board Member, IDL, DMCC “Pankaj is a self made man. From having observed his father working at the retail business, he set up a diamond.manufacturing business in 1966 and gained hands-on experience in all aspects of the trade. His leadership ensured that the company becomes a DTC Sightholder in 1976. It is with this wealth of knowledge and experience that today, forty years later, he and his family are the world's leading manufacturer of polished diamonds”.

“At the age of 16 Mr Pankaj Mehta ventured from Coimbatore in southern India to Mumbai in search of his future. Born to a successful retail jewelry family, his vision was to build a global diamond business, a business that included retail, wholesale, and manufacturing. Founder of Dimexon and Co-Founder of Eurostar. Both companies manufacture diamonds in Botswana, China, Belgium, and India, with distribution across five continents through eleven global sales offices. Together the Group employs over 11,000 professionals from 26 nationalities dedicated to delivering the highest standards of quality, service, and innovation. His vision, discipline, and dedication to learning have created The Diamond Company of the 21st Century”.

 

The other distinguished businessmen and retailers honoured at the ceremony were: the late Mohammed Taher Abdullah, Founder, Damas; Vincent Chow, Group General Manager, Chow Sang Sang; Imam Altimbas, Founder, Altimbas; Robert Mouwad, Founder, Mouwad; Jamal Farsi, Founder, Farsi Jewellery; and Roberto Coin, Founder, Roberto Coin.

“These individuals have led the evolution of the markets in China and the Middle East transforming them into the most promising growth areas for the diamond and jewellery trade. Thanks to their inspiring leadership and innovation these two markets today are the powerhouses of the global jewellery trade,” Ahmed bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, DMCC, told guests at the event.
